The Tikartta Project represents a desire to wield the power of data to do good work. Data has the power to uncover unseen pieces of our world, provide concrete and systematic evidence of experienced reality, help make decisions, and interpret meaningful insights about complex dynamics. We believe that data can be humane and used in concert with stories. Dr. Sudhir Venkatesh, a sociologist at Columbia University, writes:
“Only to the degree that observers of the social world faithfully reproduce the multilayered aspect of experience will our task merit the generosity of those who tolerate our presence.”
